One of the major challenges is that after he had completed the bedframe, we realized we weren't going to be able to fit it through our doorways. (Turns out that king sized beds are HUGE). So, we had to take the frame apart in the garage and put everything together in our bedroom. This has turned our whole upstairs into a bit of a construction zone, since now our bed is in the loft/playroom. I can't wait to get things back to normal!
The other thing we've realized as we've built the bed is how important it is to use STRAIGHT boards. Can't say that enough.
We also learned that wood glue is uber strong. There's no going back once you use wood glue.
Other than that, I would say that building this bed has not been too bad. I wouldn't say anyone could do it, b/c I didn't actually do much. My husband did pretty much everything, but it's his first project more complicated than installing shelves in our pantry and I think it's amazing!
K wanted to help out. We encourage our girls to use power tools, lest they grow up with the stereotype that powertools are only for boys. Under supervision, of course.
Laurie, It looks FABULOUS!!! I am so excited to see the finished product when it is painted. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! How much is the total cost of the project?
