A disclaimer to start: I am the proud mother of three little girls. I love them to peices. They are girly girls and I am fine with it. So this whole post is kind of gender specific-- don't hate me.
I had this brilliant idea for Christmas this year. I was going to get each of my girls a My Twinn doll. Have you seen them? They are little dolls that are designed to look like your kid, with outfits that fit the doll and your child. Seriously, they are so cute. And so expensive. One doll is $150, not including any fun matching outfits. I was really disappointed because I knew my girls would love them.
But I got to thinking.... how hard would it be to do it myself?
I found this at TJ Maxx for $16.99 And this at Sears for less than $20. (brand is Dollie and Me, I'm sure you could order it through their website too.)
Together we get a doll with a matching big girl outfit!
Here are the dolls/outfits for all three girls:Here's the comparison:

Pretty close matches, right? The only thing is I still need to cut the doll's hair, but it makes me nervous.
If you want to do it too, try to find an 18 inch doll because that's what size the clothes will fit. I've seen them a TJ Maxx, Target, and Toys R Us for less than $20. There were all kinds of skin tones/eye colors/ethnicities too, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent fit for your girl. Let me know if you try it!
Laurie, this is a fabulous idea. Blondie wanted a doll to look like her, but hello I don't have that kind of money. I am so doing this! Thanks so much for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Love it,Laurie. And amazing matching, too!
ReplyDeleteLooks great to me!
ReplyDeleteHey that's what's on our Santa list too. Sarah specifically asked for a dress to match her dolls. Only thing is...I just saw your awesome post and already dug way deep into making her a doll dress to match the dress I bought for her at Target. It's looking a bit hairy!!!! :)
